When Patrick Culligan mustered into the 140th New York on September 13th, 1862, he was an 18 year old native of Ireland.
During the 140th's charge down the slope of Little Round Top, Patrick was one of the 78 wounded, receiving a gunshot wound to his groin and a shell wound to his head.

His wounds recovered, Patrick returned to his regiment and was mustered out on June 3rd, 1865. He was a member of the Patrick O'Rorke G.A.R. post and passed away in October, 1893.
