At the time of his enlistment, Michael Schlegel was 29 years old, 5' 10" tall with dark complexion, brown eyes and dark hair. He had been born in Germany, listed his occupation as Mason and lived in the City of Rochester.

Michael Schlegel was mustered in as the Second Corporal of Company B on September 13, 1862. Company B was led by Captian Christian Speis and was composed mainly of Germans from the City of Rochester. Schlegel served with the 140th at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. On August 26th 1863, Schlegel was discharged due to disability.


John T. White

John Thomas White

Unit: Company E, 140th New York Volunteer Infantry

Occupation: Laborer

On August 29th 1862, John Thomas White, a thirty five year old, Irish Laborer enlisted in Monroe Hollister's Company E of the 140th NYVI for the period of three years. He was 5' 6 1/2" tall, had light complexion, gray eyes and brown hair.

John White survived the charge at Saunder's Field only to be wounded in the face three days later at Laurel Hill.

When his company was mustered out of service, in June 1865, White was listed as being absent for sickness.
